Application Abstract: In this project,WB ceramic powders with different percentage of rare earth(La2O3)will be clad on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy using GTAW method. The purpose of this project is to improve the wear resistance of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy by surface cladding.Additionally, the effects of microstructure and reinforcement morphology of clad layer on the wear performance will be discussed systematically. The microstructure, chemical composition and constituent phases of these clad layers will be characterized by SEM,EPMA and XRD,respectively. The wear performance of these clad layers will be evaluated under different test conditions using a reciprocating pin-on-plate wear test rig(Cameron-Plint TE-77).After wear test, the worn surfaces of these clad layers will be characterized by SEM and EPMA to identify the major wear mechanisms.Furthermore, the effects of La2O3 on hardness, microstructure and wear performance of the WB clad layer will also be investigated. The major factors that influence wear performance of these clad layers will be found out in this project.
